The American Gold Eagle series began in 1985, when President Ronald Reagan signed the Liberty Coin Act into Law.
Ever since the first $50 one-ounce American Gold Eagle was struck in 1986, it has become a global sensation that is the most sought-after gold bullion and gold collector coin in the world. American Gold Eagles are minted in four weights: 1 oz, ½ oz, ¼ oz, and 1/10 ounce, all of them are IRA eligible gold coins.
Design Obverse: Based on the famous Augustus Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle minted from 1907 to 1933 featuring a full- length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
Reverse Design: Coins issued from 2021 feature the new type II design by Jennie Norris featuring a majestic eagle. Inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "50 DOLLARS," and "1 OZ. FINE GOLD."
