The American Gold Buffalo series began in 2005, when President George W Bush signed the Presidential $1 Coin Act. The $50 American Gold Buffalo was the first U.S. coin minted in pure 24-karat gold and is an IRA eligible gold coin.
Design Obverse: A representation of a Native American based on the iconic 1913 Type 1 Buffalo nickel designed by James Earl Fraser. This patriotic $50 American Gold Buffalo coin is minted in one ounce of .9999 pure gold. Throughout U.S. coinage history coins have been named for the design that appears on the front of the coin, the Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel and so on. But James Earl Fraser’s nickel design 1913-1938 is named for the animal on the reverse, a Buffalo!
Design Reverse: Features an American Buffalo, Fraser intended that his coin design could never be mistaken for anything other than an American coin. The U.S. Mint has used his iconic design on the 2021 Silver Buffalo and this magnificent 2024 Gold Buffalo.
