This two-piece set comprises a Morgan and Peace dollar Proof coin struck at the San Francisco Mint. These are the first proof strike Morgan and Peace dollars issued under the 1921 Silver Dollar Act.
We offer both coins certified in perfect PF70 condition by NGC. From a total mintage of 400,000 sets only 40,000 sets have been defined as Advance Releases by the United States Mint. Buying one of these sets automatically puts your collection in the top 10% of these popular coins. Significantly not every Advance Release coin has the full strike and flawless surfaces required to be awarded the perfect numismatic grade of PF70. In fact, only a few thousand of the six-coin sets released in 2021 made the coveted PF70 grade with the desirable Advance Release designation.
Proof Strike Coins issued with an S for San Francisco Mintmark
The term proof refers to the method of manufacture and not the condition of a coin. Proof coins are the highest quality coins produced by the United States Mint. They are presentation pieces minted for collectors and not intended for circulation. The Mint uses specially prepared coin blanks that are struck on highly polished dies. The blanks are specially treated, hand-polished and struck at least twice under intense pressure to produce an exceptional finish, giving them mirror-like surfaces and superb eye appeal. Because the United States Mint could not secure enough silver coin blanks to strike coins on, they had to cancel the planned and much anticipated production of Morgan and Peace dollars in 2022. These 2023 coins are the first proof strike coins authorized under the 2021 Silver Dollar Anniversary Act. Being the first proof coins issued in this current series makes them a key date!
Rare Edmund C. Moy & David Ryder Authentic Dual Signed Labels
Adding another level of exclusivity to the low mintage and perfect PF70 Advance Release grade is the genuine hand signatures of Edmund C. Moy, the 38th Director and David J Ryder, 34th and 39th Director of the U.S. Mint.
These men brought many exciting modern coins to the marketplace, greatly enhancing the tradition of U.S. coin collecting with their leadership of the worlds premier manufacturer of coins. The Moy and Ryder signatures are the best known in all numismatics and appear together exclusively on NGC certified Mint Directors Series coins.
In Moys first year as Director, the U.S. Mint struck 16.2 billion coins for circulation and sold $1.04 billion in numismatic collectibles. As one of the few profitable U.S. government agencies. During his tenure, the U.S Mint would experiment with other new coins and series aimed at increasing interest in modern coin collecting, including Reverse Proof finishes, the 2009 Ultra High Relief $20 and other interesting issues. David Ryder served as a two-time U.S Mint Director. He oversaw the popular 2019 Apollo 11 Commemorative Coin Program and was instrumental in the new designs for the iconic Silver and Gold Eagles. He was also actively involved in the Advance Release coin program and implementing the 1921 Silver Dollar Anniversary Act, which authorized the mintage of 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars for their centennial anniversary.
