2022 S Silver Eagle PCGS PR70 Advance Release – Founders Mark of Distinction Label

Due to a shortage of silver planchets (coin blanks) to mint coins on, the U.S. Mint had to cancel production of the Morgan and Peace dollars in 2022 and severely restrict production of the 2022 Silver Eagle proof coins struck at the San Francisco Mint to just 200,000 coins, creating a major collecting opportunity. Only 15,000 of these silver proof coins struck at the San Francisco Mint are eligible for the official 2022 U.S. Mint Advance Release coin program. That’s 50% less than the “SOLD OUT” Advance Release coins struck at the West Point Mint earlier in the year. Advance Release coins are the very first coins released by the U.S. Mint ahead of all other coins available to the public including the revered First Day of Issue certified coins. Advance Release coins have remarkably low NGC and PCGS certified populations that collectors seek.

 
John Dannreuther Signature

This coin has been individually hand signed by John Dannreuther, one of the top coin experts in the world. He has written prolifically about U.S. coins, with a particular emphasis on rarities and die varieties. He was the principal author of "The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection," the Numismatic Literary Guild's "Book of the Year" award winner. His research has been published in many publications, including ANA Journal, which featured his groundbreaking article, "An Era of Change: Common, Proof-Only Reverse Dies of the 1840s Used for All Denominations," One of Dannreuther's most noteworthy numismatic accomplishments was co-founding Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) in 1986.
