2022 $100 Platinum Eagles MS70/PF70 FDI Signed by Michael Castle

Two 2022 $100 Platinum Eagle coins certified in flawless MS70 & PF70 condition and individually hand signed by Michael Castle, The Coinage Congressman. Each coin is minted from one troy-ounce of ,9995 pure platinum and has the coveted First Day of Issue designation. The most sought-after signature coins are those whose labels have been hand-signed by someone with an interesting personal connection to a particular coin. The first numismatic legislation that Castle sponsored was the Commemorative Coin Authorization and Reform Act of 1995, which created the American Platinum Eagle series.

American Platinum Eagles are unique amongst United States coinage, while the American Gold, Silver and Palladium Eagles all feature historic effigies of Liberty adapted from the 20th century of American coinage. Platinum Eagles have modern designs. They are also the only U.S. coin series that can be minted in any denomination and for any reason, which is why the minting of a $1 trillion platinum coin has been considered to solve our nation’s debt crisis.

Who is Michael Castle?

"Mike Castle has done more than any other person in the last 25 years to shape United States coins," says Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of NGC.
Michael Castle, “The Coinage Congressman”, is a two-term Governor of Delaware and near twenty-year member of the US House of Representatives. While in Congress Mike Castle introduced legislation that authorized a number of important modern U.S. coin programs.

The first numismatic legislation that Castle sponsored was the Commemorative Coin Authorization and Reform Act of 1995, which created the American Platinum Eagle bullion coin. A year later, Castle drafted the legislation that limited the number of new commemorative coin subjects to two per year. This limit is designed to focus the series and build collector interest. Castle also drafted and sponsored the legislation for the American Gold Buffalo series, America’s first 24-karat gold coins, and several new commemoratives, including the 2006 silver dollars that honored Benjamin Franklin, an ancestor of Castle's. In his last piece of numismatic legislation, Castle created the America the Beautiful Quarters Program to begin after the conclusion of the 50 State Quarters Program.

Platinum

Platinum is Thirty times rarer than gold

Platinum was first used for coins in Russia in 1828.

Platinum is one of the heaviest metals. A six-inch cube of platinum weighs as much as an average human being.

One gram of platinum can be stretched into a wire that is over 2,000 meters (over a mile) long.

During World War II, non-military use of platinum was banned in the United States, as it was deemed a strategic metal.
