2021 W – Winnipeg Mint $5 PCGS SP70 Tailored Specimen – Only 8,000 coins minted
This 2021 release of Canada’s Maple Leaf marks not only the second piece ever struck at the Royal Canadian Mint facility in Winnipeg, but the first-ever to feature the new Tailored Specimen finish, created just for this historic release!
Featuring the familiar Maple Leaf design, by Susanna Blunt, each $5 legal-tender coin has a special strike that sets it apart from all other coins and makes it highly collectible. The new Tailored strike is a hybrid between a burnished and proof coin. The central images of the Maple Leaf and Queen Elizabeth II have a soft satin finish while the background has fine angled lines that meet along the vertical center of each design. This “pyramid-like” effect is meant to invoke the architecture of the Winnipeg facility itself. In addition, each coin features a “W” mint mark on the reverse.
Condition
Coins are certified on a 70-point basis, with 70 being absolute perfection. This coin has been certified in perfect SP70 condition by PCGS and is a First Strike coin. Susanna Blunt, Canada’s top coin signer, her effigy of Queen Elizabeth II has appeared on all Canadian coinage since 2003.
