2021 W American Silver Eagle Type 2 NGC PF70 First Releases – Guadioso Signature

The Type 2 American Silver Eagle has ten major design changes from the original Type 1 design issued from 1986-2021, including a completely new reverse design. This historic first year of issue coin has a low mintage of only 300,000 coins, significantly below the 1,446,778 proof coins struck in 1986 for the Type 1 design.

Coins are certified on a 70-point basis, with 70 being absolute perfection. This coin is a Proof coin struck at the WestPoint Mint and issued with an identifying W mintmark. The term proof refers to the method of manufacture and not the condition of the coin. Proof coins are presentation pieces, they are the finest quality of coin produced by the United States Mint. Proof coins are made on specially treated planchets/blanks that are hand-polished and cleaned to ensure high-quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice under intense pressure to bring out all of the fine details of the design. This coin is hand signed by Michael Gaudioso, who sculpted the coin. Michael is a coin designer and engraver with 40 credits at the U.S. Mint. His initials appear on Type 2 Silver Eagle.
