2021 W American Silver Eagle Type 2 Burnished PCGS SP70 – Thomas S. Cleveland Signature
This coin holds the unique distinction of being the first burnished coin released in the new Type 2 Silver Eagle series. Burnished coins are hand-loaded into the coining press and struck on specially burnished blanks, yet have a soft, matte-like finish appearance. The first Type 1 burnished Silver Eagles were issued in 2006 for the 20th anniversary of the series. The coins are issued with a mintmark identifying where they were manufactured. The mintage of this first year of issue Type 2 coins is capped at only 175,000 coins.
Condition
Coins are graded on a 70-point scale, with 70 being absolute perfection. Due to the method of manufacture and strike burnished coins are certified as Specimen coins (SP). These coins have been certified SP70 by PCGS and have the desirable First Strike designation. Thomas S. Cleveland, an original Master Designer from the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) has signed this coin. He has 15 design credits with the U.S. Mint and is best known for the reverse design of the 2007 American Platinum Eagle.
