2021 T2 $5 Gold Eagle NGC MS70 ER MDS – David Ryder Signature
This $5 American Gold Eagle is the first 1/10 ounce coin minted with the Type 2 Eagle design by Jennie Norris, which is a major departure from how eagles have been depicted on coins since 1792. This key date, the first year of issue Type 2 coin is highly collectible. We showcase it in perfect MS70 condition by NGC, the largest coin grading service in the world. The coin is presented in the coveted NGC Mint Directors Series MDS, black core holders, and is signed by David J. Ryder, who served as both 34th and 39th Director of the United States Mint. He was named one of Coin World’s Most Influential People (1960-2020). During his tenure, Ryder brought many exciting modern coins to the marketplace, greatly enhancing the tradition of U.S. coin collecting with his leadership. He directed the most sought-after U.S. Mint releases of recent memory, including the 75th Anniversary of World War II, Type 2 Silver Eagle, and Gold Eagle, as well as the 100th Anniversary Morgan and Peace Dollars.

Coins are graded on the Sheldon numeric grading scale of 1 to 70. To achieve the top grade 70, a coin must have no post-production imperfections at 5x magnification. The first coin in any series is highly prized by collectors, making this First Type 2 coin a key date.
