In 2021, the United States Mint re-issued the iconic Peace Dollar in honor of its 100th anniversary. This four-piece set comprises the key date, first in series 2021 High Relief coin with a low mintage of only 200,000 pieces! Production of Peace Dollars was suspended in 2022 due to a lack of high-quality silver blanks to strike coins on!
We take up the story in 2023, three Peace Dollars were struck with three different finishes and with larger mintages to satisfy collector demand! The Philadelphia Mint produced 275,000 coins with an uncirculated strike. This was followed up by the San Francisco Mint who issued 400,000 proof strike coins, the first proof coins in the series. The final and most eye catching 2023 release is the first ever reverse proof strike Peace Dollar. 250,000 coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint. Reverse proof coins are struck so that the design, rather than the background of the coin is reflective and mirror-like.
NGC, the world's largest third-party grading service for coins certified each piece in perfect 70 condition. This set is one of a small number signed by Edmund C. Moy and David Ryder, two of only thirty-seven people to have held the esteemed position of United States Mint Director since its founding in 1872. Mint Director Edmund C. Moy played a pivotal role in developing the modern minting technology, treatments and asset transfer capabilities required to bring these new Peace Dollars to life. Mint Director David Ryder managed and oversaw production of these historic and highly collectible coins which were authorized by the 1921 Silver Dollar Anniversary Act.
