1877 TRADE DOLLAR MS64 PL W/KENNETH BRESSETT

Trade dollars were created as a means for U.S. merchants to export goods to China and the Far East.

Trade dollars were only minted from 1873-1878, and only 36 million coins were produced across all dates and mintmarks. The design shows Lady Liberty seated on bales of cotton. She is facing left towards China. Her left hand holds a ribbon inscribed with the legend Liberty, while her right holds aloft an olive branch symbolic of peace. The 13 stars across the coin's perimeter represent the 13 original colonies. The reverse depicts a perched eagle with wings raised. The words 420 grains .900 fine silver are below the eagle.
