The American Silver Eagle coin program 1986-2021 was a phenomenal global success for the U.S. Mint. In 2021 John Mercanti’s iconic Heraldic Eagle design was updated and replaced after thirty-five years of production with a new Eagle Landing design created by Emily S. Damstra. This coin dubbed the Type 2 series, has ten major redesign features from the original coin issued under the Liberty Coin Act and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1985.
Silver Eagles 1986-2021 were collected by date, mintmark, condition, rarity, and through special releases and special strikes providing a treasure map for collectors of the new Type 2 series to follow! Like the original coins, the Type 2 series has three standard finishes, a Business/bullion strike, an Uncirculated/burnished strike, and a proof strike. Whatever way you choose to collect them, the first coins released in their respective series will be a foundational key date that future generations of collectors will be searching for. These are the four different strike/mintmark coins struck in 2021. All collector options sold out at the U.S. Mint within a few hours of their release.
