2022 “Freedom of Speech” $100 Platinum Eagle
WestPoint Mint – PF70 First Day of Issue
This 2022 coin is the second in a five-year series (2021-2025) of American Platinum Eagle proof coins recognizing the five freedoms addressed in the First Amendment: Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom to Peaceably Assemble, and Freedom to Petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

We offer this significant coin that was struck at the WestPoint Mint in flawless PF70 condition by NGC. This coin also has the coveted First Day of Issue designation and is individually hand-signed by Michael Castle. As a near twenty-year member of the U.S. House of Representatives, he was directly responsible for some of the most important and popular modern U.S. coins, earning him the nickname “The Coinage Congressman”. The most sought-after signature coins are those whose labels have been hand-signed by someone with an interesting personal connection to a particular coin. The first numismatic legislation that Castle sponsored was the Commemorative Coin Authorization and Reform Act of 1995, which created the American Platinum Eagle series.
American Platinum Eagles
Platinum coins feature unique designs, while the American Gold, Silver and Palladium Eagles all feature historic effigies of Liberty adapted from the 20th century of American coinage. Platinum Eagles are also the only U.S. coin series that can be minted in any denomination and for any reason, which is why the minting of a $1 trillion platinum coin has been considered to solve our nation’s debt crisis.
This series uses the lifecycle of the oak tree from seedling to a mighty oak as a metaphor for our country’s growth as a nation that values freedom. Liberty grows to a thing of strength and beauty from a seed – our Bill of Rights. Each of the freedoms enumerated in the First Amendment contributes to the growth and development of the nation.
The obverse (heads) design features a juvenile oak tree framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.”

The reverse (tails) design depicts an eagle in flight, an olive branch in its talons.
