2008-W American Silver Eagle Reverse of 2007 Die Variety
This 2008 Burnished American Silver Eagle is the only major mint error die variety coin in the Type 1 series 1986-2021 bearing the original Mercanti heraldic eagle reverse design. The coin is known as the 2008 with the reverse of 2007. Struck at the West Point Mint and issued with a W mintmark, this coin has a low mintage of only 47,000 coins. In 2008 the U.S. Mint made some minor design changes to the coin. Mistakenly they issued some coins with the new 2008 obverse paired with the 2007 reverse design.
The design changes to look out for are the letter “U” in United States is bowl shaped and the dash between the words Silver and One is shaped like a tilde. We offer this significant coin certified in flawless MS70 condition by NGC. This coin is signed by Anna Escobedo Cabral, 42nd Treasurer of the United States.
